Create or recover your SAT password

What it is

The Contraseña is the key to enter the SAT’s electronic services and has the same legal effects as a handwritten signature. You generate, update or renew it when you need it for an online procedure, and you can reset it if you have your e.firma.

Time

On the portal and at an office it is immediate. Through SAT ID, the maximum time is 5 days counted from the business day after you send your request. The Contraseña is valid for 4 years, counted from generation or from the last update.

Requirements

• This procedure file is for individuals, and where applicable for their legal representative.
• To do it on the portal you need a valid and active e.firma.
• In SAT ID you must be a Mexican individual of legal age, with a valid INE voter card.
• The office option is available only if you are a foreign individual, an older adult, pregnant or have a disability, and you must bring a valid official ID and a personal email.
• The password must have 8 characters, letters and numbers only, and the RFC is not accepted as the Contraseña.

Steps

1. On sat.gob.mx open Trámites y servicios, Más trámites y servicios, Herramientas de cumplimiento and Contraseña.
2. Choose Genera y actualiza con tu e.firma, indicate that you do have an e.firma and upload the .cer certificate, the .key private key and that key’s password.
3. Enter the captcha, press Enviar, create your password, confirm it and, where applicable, register a personal email.
4. Keep the receipt of generation or update of the Contraseña.
5. If you do not have an e.firma, go to satid.sat.gob.mx, choose Generación de contraseña and follow the steps; if it is approved, the SAT emails you a link to fill out the form.
6. To reset it in the online service, indicate that you have an electronic signature and enter your RFC, the private-key password, the .key file, the .cer certificate and the text in the image.
7. If your certificate must be renewed, go by prior appointment to the Administración Desconcentrada de Servicios al Contribuyente of your choice.
