What it is
The passport appointment is the turn to apply for or renew your Mexican passport at an office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Each person books their own, and it is the step before you go with your documents and the fee payment.
- Cost
- The appointment is completely free. From January 1, 2026, the passport costs $920 MXN for 1 year, $1795 MXN for 3 years, $2440 MXN for 6 years and $4,280 MXN for 10 years; with the 50% discount it is $460 MXN, $900 MXN, $1,220 MXN and $2,140 MXN for people over 60, people with a proven disability and agricultural workers in Canada. The 1-year passport is issued only to children under 3, and the 10-year discount does not apply to agricultural workers.
- Time
- The document is delivered the same day as the appointment, once you have met the requirements and paid the corresponding fees.
Requirements
- You must book one appointment for each person who will do the procedure.
- If you are an adult and this is your first passport, you must prove Mexican nationality and present a valid official ID in original, such as the INE voter card.
- If the Ministry cannot prove your nationality from its records, present a Mexican birth certificate, a certificate of Mexican nationality, a declaration of Mexican nationality by birth, a naturalization letter, a citizen identity card or a consular registration certificate.
- To renew, present the original passport; if it was stolen, lost or destroyed, file a report with the ministerial authority and present the first-time requirements again.
- If the passport is for a minor, bring an ID for the minor and the ID and authorization of the person who has parental authority or guardianship.
